I think that adding PLCs to the game would be an excellent addition. PLC stands for Programmable Logic Controller, and many industries today use them to automate their machines. If PLCs were to be added to the game, we could use the ladder logic that they use to our advantage. Laderr logic is easier to read and troubleshoot when necessary.
PLCs are in concept similar to the microprocessors, but I'm not suggesting the complete removal of microcontrollers as they are a very handy tool, and PLCs can't monitor video, audio, or composite. I'm just suggesting a new way to use an 'automation" controller. I feel like PLC's and microcontroller could make a great duo.
